Press Release:
Teradyne Connection Systems Introduces
6-Row Differential-Pair Version of VHDM® Interconnect
VHDM-HSD™ 6-Row connector takes high-performance
beyond 5 Gb/sec
Nashua, NH - Jan. 18, 2001 -- Teradyne Connection
Systems (NYSE: TER), a leading manufacturer of high-performance
custom backplanes, high-speed/high-density interconnects,
and complete electro-mechanical packaging subassemblies today
announced a new 6-row version of its HSD (High-Speed-Differential)
interconnect.
The VHDM-HSD™ 6-row connector system uses
an orthogonal (in-line) grid rather than a staggered grid,
allowing for wider traces (up to 10 mils wide) and permitting
traces to run through the connector without jogs. This is
especially beneficial for high-speed applications, since it
greatly reduces skin-effect losses. The connector's board
routing feature and measured signal integrity capability (greater
than 5 Gb/sec) are critical to the design of full board-to-board
interconnect systems that will support OC-48 systems.
"The addition of VHDM-HSD 6-row provides
the customer with even greater design flexibility, which is
core to Teradyne's expansion strategy for the VHDM connector
family," said Scott Miller, VHDM product manager, Teradyne
Connection Systems.
Similar to the VHDM single-ended connector,
the high-speed differential (HSD) version shares the same
polarizing/guidance and power module options. Also, the connector
can be used on the same stiffener as the 6-row single-ended
version of VHDM and fits the same 18mm slot pitch. This allows
the designer to optimize the connector performance by placing
single-ended signals and high-speed differential signals where
they are needed in the card slot. As a result, the designer
can optimize signal performance, speed and density by configuring
single-ended and differential lines on the same connector.
Pricing and Availability
The VHDM-HSD 6-row connector system is priced at approximately
$.20-.22 per mated signal line in full OEM production volumes
and will be available Q1 2001.
About Teradyne's VHDM Product
Family
VHDM is a board-to-board interconnect system designed for
high-density/high-speed data processing/storage, telecom,
and datacom applications. The connector family continues to
expand and now is available in 6-row and 8-row single-ended
versions; and 5-row, 6-row, and 8-row differential (HSD) versions.
The VHDM and the VHDM-HSD connectors provide designers with
the flexibility to scale their performance and density needs
within a common connector platform. In addition to this expansion
in the core product, VHDM continues to add options such as
coax and grounded guide modules that can be integrated into
the connector configuration for further design flexibility.
