Lucent Technologies Honors Top Suppliers
With Second Annual Golden Link Awards
MURRAY HILL, N.J., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/
-- Lucent Technologies' (NYSE: LU - News) Supply Chain Networks
group announced the suppliers selected for its 2003 Golden
Link Awards. Golden Link suppliers are chosen based on a number
of critical factors that are important to helping Lucent meet
the needs of its customers. These include quality, timeliness
of delivery, technology, innovation and overall value.
Jose Mejia, president of Lucent's Supply Chain Networks, commended
this year's award winners at a recognition event held at the
company's headquarters in Murray Hill, N.J. This is the second
year Lucent has recognized its top suppliers with this award.
"These outstanding suppliers delivered
quality products quickly and presented creative solutions
to challenging problems," Mejia said. "In a highly
competitive marketplace, that kind of support is critical."
The 2003 Golden Link suppliers are Alliente,
Amphenol, Andrew/Forem Filter Division, Anixter, Artesyn Communication
Products, IDT (Integrated Device Technology Inc.), Ryder Supply
Chain Solutions, Teradyne, Tyco and Xilinx.
"The suppliers we work with excel in
a number of areas, but this year's winners all succeed in
each of the five selection criteria -- delivery, technology,
value, quality and overall relationship," said Joe Carson,
vice president of the Supplier Management Group. "We
look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationships
with them and working with them to better serve our customers."
Two of this year's winners also received
Impact Awards for being chosen as suppliers of the year. Anixter
was named services and support supplier of the year for work
that included helping Lucent meet challenging customer delivery
dates. Xilinx was selected as manufacturing supplier of the
year for work that included its use of a leading-edge procurement
system that has helped Lucent achieve greater flexibility
with two of its contract manufacturers.
In addition, two Golden Link companies were
given E.N. Barton awards. These awards are named after Enos
N. Barton, one of the two entrepreneurs who founded the company
that would eventually become AT&T's Western Electric,
Lucent's predecessor. Tyco Electronics, which was selected
for its sustained performance in support of a broad range
of Lucent products, received the award for the most improved
manufacturing supplier. Ryder Supply Chain Solutions, chosen
for managing and reducing Lucent's transportation and logistics
costs, was recognized as the most improved services and support
supplier.
The other Golden Link recipients were honored
for their contributions throughout the year. Alliente was
recognized for its work with the outsourcing of Lucent's indirect
procurement processes in Europe. Amphenol, a cable assembly
provider, was selected for its support across all dimensions
including cost, quality, and delivery. Andrew Corporation
(formerly known as Forem, an Allen telecom Company, before
the merger with Andrew), a strategic supplier of radio frequency
filters to Lucent, was cited for work that contributed to
reduced costs and improved lead times.
Artesyn was chosen for an innovative card-based
solution that reduced the footprint of Lucent's packet control
function (PCF) program and lowered costs. IDT was named for
continuing to support Lucent products with solution-based
offerings at highly competitive cost levels. And Teradyne,
an important component supplier for key products in Lucent's
mobility portfolio, was recognized for its support in technology,
production efficiency and cost reduction.
Managers in Lucent's Supply Chain Networks
team as well as members of the company's engineering and design,
customer delivery and quality organizations nominate suppliers
for the award. A committee reviews the nominations, interviews
people throughout the company who work regularly with the
suppliers and then makes the final selection of the top suppliers.
