Lucent Technologies Honors Nine
Top Suppliers with Third Annual Golden Link Awards
MURRAY HILL, N.J. - Lucent Technologies'
(NYSE:LU) Supply Chain Networks group announced that nine
of its top suppliers were selected as recipients of Lucent's
2004 Golden Link Awards. Awards were presented by Jose Mejia,
president of Lucent's Supply Chain Networks, at a recognition
event held at Lucent's headquarters in Murray Hill, N.J.
Amphenol, Andrew Corporation, Anixter, Artesyn,
Freescale Semiconductor, Ryder System, Inc., Symmetricom,
Teradyne and Texas Instruments were recognized for their significant
contributions in key areas including delivery, technology,
value, quality and overall relationship. This is the third
year Lucent has recognized its top suppliers with these awards.
"These suppliers consistently exceed
our expectations in areas that are essential to helping us
meet the needs of our customers," according to Mejia.
"Over the past several years, Lucent has realigned its
supply chain to be faster, flexible and more efficient. We
recognize how crucial tight linkages with our key suppliers
are to our success, and we appreciate their flexibility, and
their constant willingness to innovate as we work together
to better serve our customers."
In addition to being named 2004 Golden Link
Suppliers, three additional awards were announced. Lucent
selected Andrew Corporation, a provider of amplifiers and
filters for Lucent's wireless base stations, as Supplier of
the Year. The Supplier of the Year receives the Impact Award
for having the best overall performance according to SCN's
supplier scorecard.
This year, Lucent presented a new award to the supplier that
most aided the company in the preparation of bids -- a crucial
factor in winning new business. The first recipient of the
Winning Edge Award was Freescale, who supported strategic
bids and proposals, provided strategic pricing assistance,
and generated cost reductions.
Symmetricom, a provider of rubidium oscillators
essential for precise timing in Lucent's wireless base stations,
received the E.N. Barton Award. This award was named after
Enos Barton -- one of the entrepreneurs who founded the company
that would eventually become AT&T's Western Electric,
Lucent's predecessor -- and recognizes a supplier for developing
a winning strategy.
Members of Lucent's engineering and design,
customer delivery, quality and Supply Chain Networks organizations
nominate suppliers for these awards. A committee, made up
of Lucent employees, interviews supplier relationship managers
and employees who work closely with the nominated suppliers,
reviews the nominations and makes the final selections.
"These suppliers continue to go above
and beyond," Joe Carson, vice president of the Supplier
Management Group, said. "They have helped Lucent increase
its customer satisfaction scores, reduce delivery times, and
ensure our customers have what they need, when they need it.
We greatly value their partnership."
The other recipients were Amphenol, a strategic
connector and cable assembly supplier; Anixter, which manages
Lucent's installation-related material needs; Artesyn, a supplier
of controller, communication and custom cards for optical
and mobility products; Ryder, one of Lucent's lead logistics
providers; Teradyne, which provides backplanes and backplane
assemblies used in wireless base stations; and Texas Instruments,
a semiconductor supplier.
