Press Release
Amphenol TCS Second Sourcing of I-Trac Conditional on
FCI-Molex Litigation and Market Demand
Nashua, NH, September 25, 2007 – Amphenol TCS (ATCS), the leading provider of high performance backplane interconnect systems, and Molex Incorporated have signed a cross license agreement for the I-Trac backplane connector system. As the design is an extension of the Amphenol TCS GbX® connector platform and utilizes Amphenol-patented broadside coupled architecture, the product will be now promoted as GbX® I-Trac™.
Under the agreement, Amphenol TCS will license its intellectual property to Molex, and Molex will license its intellectual property to ATCS including the rights to manufacture, market, and sell the GbX I-Trac backplane connector system.
The GbX I-Trac system is currently only available from Molex. Resolution of IP issues between FCI, Inc. and Molex concerning the product and market demand for the product will determine if ATCS will second-source GbX I-Trac.
Amphenol TCS has previously licensed its high-technology interconnect to Molex as a second source manufacturer, beginning with its HDM® connector family and extending to the industry-leading VHDM®, VHDM-HSD™ and GbX® high-speed, high-density connector platforms. In a typical backplane system application, GbX I-Trac supports data rates up to 5.0 Gbps. Amphenol TCS’s newest high-speed connectors – XCede® and Crossbow™ – deliver data rates up to 20+ Gbps. The company is currently evaluating second source manufacturing options for these two products.
