Gerber Data Elements

The image is a graphic description of the part used to create the phototool. The minimum requirements for tooling image data are:

Inner and Outer layers (all copper layers)
Soldermask layers
Legend (silkscreen) layers
At least one image file supplied for each phototool with a clear description of the function of each file.
Image file merging, if required, must be clearly described in the read.me file.
Aperture list if not embedded with Gerber 274X
A single table clearly describing the aperture shapes and dimensions along with their associated Gerber D-code must be supplied. Custom non-standard apertures must be clearly and completely described. The format information should include a description of coordinate format, coordinate mode (absolute or incremental) and zero suppression.
If a profile is available in one of the preferred formats, please include it. File function described both within the image data and in explanatory documentation.
Pads "flashed" with standard aperture shapes rather than "painted" with lines Solid copper areas designed as a "Contour" or surface area versus "painted". This can be achieved in many CAD systems utilizing correct output parameters & ( RS274X ).
If features are painted, an overlap of .5 mil is required Output formats match with Drill output formats ( 2.4 / 2.3 ) to ensure layer / drill registration
Power / Ground layers, do not extend excessively beyond board edge ( Min. .025" preferred )
Use a separate Dcode / aperture for multiple Impedance circuitry on the same layer Example: ( .041" / .042" )
Do not use cross hatch for thieving / CU distribution which creates excessive sliver clean up.
Do not use an output format ( 2.5 / 2.4 / 2.3 ) of lower resolution than the CAD design database, this can cause registration and irregular edges on drawn "painted" features.
