Electrical

What is the current rating of the signal pins?
1 amp

What is the current rating of the power blade?
15 amps/blade. 45 amps total.

Can the guide pins be used for first-make ground?
A unique grounded guide module and mating guide pin are now available.

What is meant by the term 'real' signal pins?
The maximum number of pins usable for signal transmission while providing less than 5% backward and forward crosstalk, and less than 5% reflection at the desired risetime.

What is the contact resistance between the compliant pin and the plated-through hole?
1 milliohm, maximum.

What is the maximum signal speed compatible with HDM?
The connector has tested well at 500 picoseconds with extra ground positions, however it is designed to work in a one nanosecond environment.

Mechanical

What is the per pin insertion/mating force?
46 grams per signal pin.

What is the normal force per contact beam?
50 grams per contact beam.

What kind of compliant press-in forces should I expect with the 6-row connector in a 144 position module?
Pressing in a 144 position module requires 864 lbs force. Please review our technical bulletin (TB2001) for proper set up.

The daughtercard connector is press-fit. Do I still need screws through my daughtercard?
Yes, for joiners and guide modules.

Will there be a different drilled and finished hole specification for the different surface finishes that we want to use?
No. The drill size is 0.033" and the finished hole size is 0.0255" to 0.0305" regardless of the surface finish.

How many modules can I end stack in a connector pattern?
Total connector width should be held to 19 inches or less.

When should I use the guide pin?
Our design rules call for one guide pin for patterns less than 4 inches and two guide pins for those over 4 inches.

Has HDM passed Bellcore testing?
Yes. HDM has been accepted under report #GR-1217-CORE (from 1998).
