HDM® Configuration
Amphenol's HDM Connector System is modular,
which means that custom connector patterns can be created
simply by arranging end-stackable modules in any fashion.
Individual modules contain signal contacts, power contacts,
polarizing and guidance features. Additionally, the daughterboard
connector modules can be specified with or without shield
contacts. The shielded version of the HDM connector, called
HDM PLUS®, is particularly useful in applications that need
high signal-pin density combined with high-speed signal integrity
(i.e. reduced crosstalk). By placing the shielding only on
the daughterboard-half of the interconnect, users can easily
migrate from non-shielded to shielded versions without reworking
the backplane.
 |
Standard Backplane Module
Modules can be end-stacked in the backplane, held in
place by the signal pins in the PWB.
|
| |
|
 |
Backplane Module with Endwall
Endwalls are used to guide the connector into the correct
mating position
|
| |
|
 |
Polarizing & Guidance Connectors
Modules are available to help guide large connectors
to blind mate. Modules can be added to both the backplane
connector and the daughtercard side.
|
| |
|
 |
Power Connectors
Modules rated for 36 AMPs can be used end stacked for
power applications, or individually to reduce space
needed to bring current to the daughtercard.

Shielded Daughtercard
A shield is added to the receptacle side of the connector
for improved signal integrity.
|
| |
|
 |
Unshielded Daughtercard
Unshielded connectors can maximize the number of slower
signals carried and assign grounds ONLY to high speed
lines.
|
| |
|
 |
HDM Backplane Module
Both shielded and unshielded modules fit into the same
backplane component allowing mixed shielded/unshielded
modules on the daughtercard assembly.

The HDM signal connector modulesbackplane and daughterboardcome
in two lengths: 72-pin (24mm) and 144-pin (48mm). These modules
can be combined along with power modules and modules containing
polarizing and guidance to achieve the desired pin count and
mix of features. The illustrations below show the basic dimensional
footprints for these respective modules.
