Orthogonal midplane connectors are high-speed, high-density interconnects optimized for use in system architectures that utilize a midplane with horizontal card(s) on one side mating to vertical card(s) on the opposite side (see illustration). This type of optimized interconnect creates a pass-through connection allowing differential pairs on each side of the board to share the same midplane vias.

Amphenol's orthogonal midplane solution, Crossbow Matrix, leverages this shared via approach providing the best overall system solution in terms of signal integrity performance and system cost. This direct path approach and the connector's unique footprint eliminates most electrical problems associated with the traditional backplane via stub, including elimination of crosstalk in the footprint, reflections, and impedance mismatches.
